Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park is a spacious park nestled between the bighorn inhabited terrain of the Santa Rosa Mountains and the populated basin of the Coachella Valley.
At 710 acres, the park features a variety of recreational opportunities, including a lake popular for fishing, lifeguard-watched swimming pool, playgrounds, picnic areas, hiking and equestrian trails, and campgrounds catering to tents, RVs, groups and horses.
Lake Cahuilla Park is the largest public park area in the town of La Quinta, and is especially popular amongst locals for things like birthday parties and barbecues. However a network of trails accessible from the park that head out into the surrounding terrain are of special interest to the more active crowd. As the Santa Rose Mountains are bighorn habitat, the animals can often be seen wandering into the park grounds.
While the park gets crowded on weekends, and especially over holiday weekends, those visiting during the week, or venturing further from the campground areas will often find a sense of solitude.
A fishing license is required to fish at the park, however licenses are not available there and must be purchased beforehand. A small store offers ice and bait for sale.
Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park is open daily from 6am to 5pm. Entrance fees are $6 per adult and $3 per child, with additional fees required for fishing and camping. A full list of rules can be found at the Riverside County Parks page.
