Piñyon Flat Campground is located just off of the stunning Pines to Palms Scenic Byway in the San Bernardino National Forest. It is a fairly straightforward national forest campground presenting the usual suspects in terms of amenities: picnic tables and fire pits are in each site, and vault toilets are centrally located. Potable water is offered, but it may not be always available, so campers would be wise to show up with their own full jugs just in case. All of the 18 sites here are first-come, first-served, and most are well distributed so as to avoid a sense of overcrowding. Campers will have big views of San Jacinto Peak to the northwest, and on clear nights, magnificent views of the stars. On the other hand, there is very little tree cover, so campers should prepare for sun exposure.
Fire danger is a critical concern here, of course, and fire regulations may limit campfire, lighting, and cooking options. Be sure to check for updated information when you pay for your site. The dirt road leading around the sites is a little rough at the entrance, but average passenger cars shouldn’t have a problem. Dust is sure to be a factor for campers here.
