The Mount Baker area is chock full of fantastic hiking opportunities, all of which are easily accessible via the Mount Baker Highway (SR 542). One of these trails is the Wild Goose Trail. It is best hiked combined with the Bagley Lakes Trail or Chain Lakes Trail, but can also be enjoyed as an out-and-back standalone hike.

The Wild Goose Trail begins from the Bagley Lakes Trailhead and travels through the entirety of the Heather Meadows area. The trail continues to the Heather Meadows Visitor Center and Austin Pass Picnic Area.

You’ll then continue past small Terminal Lake and begin gaining elevation. The trail climbs steadily and at times steeply up to Artist Point where it ends.

If you have the time I’d strongly recommend continuing on the Chain Lakes Trail, which will eventually make a large loop and reconnect with the Wild Goose Trail. Otherwise, return the way you came back to the trailhead.
