The trailhead parking for this hike is the same as the parking for Bloods Lake.  It is a large lot but can fill quickly during nice weather and weekends.  Cross the road and enter the forest on the Bloods Lake Trail.  The trail descends slightly then begins again uphill to Bloods Lake.  Even in late June there can still be snow on portions of the trail and can also be muddy due to snow melt.

After 1.5 miles the trail ends at Bloods Lake.  On the left, going up hill is the trail to Lake Lackawaxan.  The trail climbs to a saddle over Bloods Lake with great views to the southeast.  Continue from the saddle traversing below Peak 10,420 to an open area between Peak 10,420 and Clayton Peak.  The trail stays left following a stream below Clayton Peak.  This area could have snow in late summer and the trail can sometimes be difficult to follow.

About 1.5 miles the trail ends at Lake Lackawaxan. On the return to the trailhead, the trail splits at the saddle below Peak 10,420.  For a different view, keep right and follow the trail through Bonanza Flat. There is a steeper uphill section near the end of the section to get back onto the Bloods Lake Trail.
