The Red Hills Desert Garden is a unique and wonderful place found just outside of downtown St. George, Utah. The garden is home to a large variety of plant species and is a joy to explore. The garden is Utah’s first desert conservation garden and features over 5,000 water-efficient plants. Plant identification tags are located beside all plants.
The Red Hills Desert Garden first opened in spring of 2015. There is no admission fee and visitors are welcome to spend as long as they’d like strolling though and exploring the nearly 5-acre gardens.
There are various paved and gravel/dirt pathways throughout the garden. A central stream flows through the garden as well, and is stocked with native and endangered fish species. There is also a fish viewing area here.
There are of course countless plant species spread throughout the gardens including areas featuring sage, hesperaloe, agave, naive species, yucca, cactus and flowering plants.
Another unique feature of the gardens is the replica slot canyon that leads to the fish viewing area. This slot canyon is enjoyable to walk through.
While you are in the area be sure to check out some of the amazing rock formations found next-door in Pioneer Park.
