With access to nearly 3,000 surface acres at Deer Creek State Park, Island Beach Day Use Area offers prime access to some of the broadest waters and best wind sports in the Wasatch Front. Just 30 minutes from Provo and an hour from Salt Lake City, Deer Creek Reservoir offers reliable winds, a big surface area, and convenient access to amenities that include boat rentals, kiteboarding lessons, and zipline tours.
Island Beach Day Use Area is one of several along the shore of Deer Creek Reservoir, and there is little to distinguish it from the alternatives aside from the people who have decided to congregate there on a given summer afternoon. An important exception: The beach here is rockier than Sailboat Beach. Island Beach Day Use Area is perhaps best left to the paddlers and boaters, and sun lovers are encouraged to choose a day use alternative nearby, although beach relaxation is certainly possible. Adjacent Deer Creek Island Resort offers boat rentals and houses Dock of the Bay Restaurant.
Island Beach Day Use Area offers covered picnic cabanas in areas of high sun exposure (several with barbecues), including a group picnic area for large gatherings. Comfortable, well-maintained restrooms area available. A boat ramp offers watercraft access to Deer Creek Reservoir. While Mount Timpanogos can be seen from nearly anywhere in Deer Creek State Park, the view from Island Beach is particularly striking.
Note: Island Beach Day Use Area is open year round from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter months. To reserve the large picnic shelter call 801.538.7220.
