Angel Lake is a small mountain lake and day use recreation area in the East Humboldt Range about 17 miles southwest of the town of Wells.
The lake is popular during the summer months for its fishing, wading, camping and hiking. Non-motorized boats are also permitted on the lake's waters.
A medium sized parking area opens to gravel paths leading to the picnic tables that are set around a portion of Angel Lake's perimeter. Rising from the western edge of the lake are the steep slopes of Greys Peak. Two hiking trails beginning near the parkiing area lead to alpine lakes in the high slopes surrounding Angel Lake.
Here the area's altitude of around 8500' give the air a stillness, and the waters in this glacial tarn remain cool year round when Nevada's summer heat can become sweltering at lower elevations.
During months of spring runoff, it may be possible to find waterfalls descending from the peaks toward the lake's western edge.
Adjacent to the recreation area is Angel Lake Campground, possibly one of the most scenic campgrounds in Nevada. Further down the road is the lower elevation Angel Creek Campground, which remains warmer than the lake area.
Angel Lake closes each year during icy winter conditions. There is a $5 parking fee for day use during the lake's June-September operating season. Angel Lake has vault toilets but no other amenities.
