The Fielding Garr Ranch

A widower and father of nine, Fielding Garr built his ranch at the most consistent of the 40 freshwater springs on Antelope Island, which allowed it to continue operations for the next 133 years. Founded in 1848, the land was not turned into a state park until 1981. It was originally established to handle the herds of cows and sheep that had been tithed to the Latter-day Saints church. This is one of the oldest ranches in the West that is still operational, and horses are still running around the corrals today. Nowadays tourists get to experience a taste of life before modern electronics. Many buildings sit on the property and are filled with old tools, provisions, and pieces of technology from the turn of the last century that people are allowed to interact with. This is a great place for families who wouldn't mind imparting some of the nation's history onto the kids. The Mountain View Trail (Eastern Shore Trail) has its southern trailhead here at the ranch.
