Kenneth Hahn is one of the nicest parks in the L.A. metro area. It features acres of green rolling hills, several miles of trails, sports facilities, gardens, ponds, and picnic areas. Many of the hikes reward with views of Hollywood, the downtown skyline, and the stunning backdrop of San Gabriel Mountains (on a clear day).
The park offers many ways to spend an afternoon outdoors. There are more than 100 picnic tables, several picnic shelters, four playgrounds, a basketball court, a sports field, baseball diamonds, sand volleyball court, and a fishing pond. You can stroll alongside a babbling brook and peruse an artfully arranged Japanese garden with a lotus pond. For hiking, biking, and horseback riding, there is a surprising variety of trail distance and difficulty, making Kenneth Hahn a great choice for all ages and abilities. Below are short descriptions of some of the park's trails and other features.
- Gwen Moore Lake: A small man-made lake surrounded by a paved walking path that is stocked with fish and open for public fishing (California fishing license required).
- Doris' Japanese Garden: A small pond full of koi fish and lotus plants, surrounded by quintessential architecture and carefully tended gardens.
- Randi's Waterfall: A small waterfall constructed at the top of a water feature resembling a natural stream. The water rushes downhill to feed the pond in the Japanese Garden, and a walking path runs alongside it the whole way.
- Forest Trail: A shady stroll near the waterfall and Japanese Garden.
- City View Trail: A paved path that links multiple viewpoints of LA.
- Bowl Loop: This trail travels the 0.8-mile perimeter of Janice's Green Valley, a large bowl-shaped field dotted with trees.
- La Brea Loop: A 1.8-mile dirt trail in the hills of the southern part of the park. It links with many other paths and several good viewpoints.
- Community Loop: A 2.25-mile loop from the main parking lot that connects Burke Roche Point overlook, Janice's Green Valley, City View Trail, Randi's Waterfall, and the Japanese Garden.
