Covering 410 acres in the high elevation Steptoe Valley, Comins Lake makes an easily accessible fishing destination in vicinity of Ely and the surrounding outdoor recreation opportunities.

Fed by Cave and Steptoe Creeks, Comins Lake lies immdiately beside Highway 50, with the well graded dirt road tracing a portion of the lake's perimeter offering easy access to all vehicle types. The lake has a primitive boat ramp for getting on the water during the warmer months, while winters the water's frozen surface can be dotted with ice fishermen.

A couple interpretive signs greet visitors, and the sparse population in this corner of the state means that visitors will typically be able to find a fair amount of solitude and quiet here, even if others are around as well. There are several covered picnic benches spread out along the lake's edge.

The lake is stocked with largemouth bass and trout. Current fishing license requirements apply.

There are no fees to visit Comins Lake, and the area has no drinking water but does contain vault toilets.
