The Lone Fir Loop is an enjoyable walk through the forest that has sadly been neglected. You’ll have to find your way through a couple sections with blowdown and overgrown brush, as well as navigate 2 bridges that are out. This shouldn’t be a problem for most, and as a reward you’ll likely have the trail to yourself.

The lollipop loop trail begins from Lone Fir Campground. The trail starts out paved, and you’ll find several interpretive signs along the way that inform about the ecology of the area.

Right away you’ll come to a bridge that is out over Pine Creek. It’s an easy scramble down to the stream bed and back up to the other side.

The paved path continues until coming to Early Winter’s Creek. This is the 2nd bridge that is out. You’ll need to find a way to cross the creek. In fall when I hiked this trail it was an easy, dry feet crossing. But during late spring snow melt this could be impassable.

After the crossing there are a few blowdowns to navigate around. The (dirt) trail now continues through the forest and is enjoyable hiking. You’ll eventually come to the end of the loop and cross Early Winter’s Creek again, this time on a nice new log bridge.

The loop curves and follows near the creek back to the initial paved pathway. Once you reach the familiar paved path simply follow it back to where you began.
