ROUTE DESCRIPTION
Start at the Bill Reily Trailhead, located northeast of Altadena, just past the Red Box Picnic Area off Mount Wilson-Red Box Road. The trail begins with a steady climb through shaded forest, providing peaceful moments and occasional glimpses of the ridgelines above. Follow the trail to the junction with the San Gabriel Peak Trail, where you’ll complete a short but steep out-and-back hike to the summit of San Gabriel Peak before continuing toward Markham Saddle.
From Markham Saddle, head west to join the Mount Lowe Trail, leading to your second summit. Descend via Mount Lowe East Trail (though Mount Lowe West Trail also connects to the same destination). Continue along the dirt road path to Inspiration Point, then onward to the top of your third peak, Muir Peak. Along the way, enjoy expansive views of the surrounding wilderness, the Los Angeles Basin to the west, and, on clear days, Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean in the distance.
At Muir Peak, take time to appreciate the panoramic views and explore the serene environment before retracing your steps back to the start.
