Stove Mountain

Stove Mountain is a mountain in Colorado's Front Range located near Colorado Springs. This peak is most commonly accessed via Cheyenne Canyon. The out and back hike to Stove Mountain is 8.7 miles and gains 2,490 feet of elevation

This hike starts from the Upper Gold Camp Parking Area. There are portable toilets available here. Begin hiking on Gold Camp Road. You will be traveling gradually uphill. This trail is very wide and well-traveled. After 0.7 miles, you will reach a junction and turn left to stay on Gold Camp Road. After another 0.6 miles, you will encounter a second junction. Here, you will turn right onto St Mary's Falls Trail. This trail continues uphill through a coniferous forest.

Continue hiking on St Mary's Falls Trail for 1.4 miles. Here, you will start hiking up switchbacks. After 0.3 miles, you will reach a junction with a spur trail that leads to St Mary's Falls. Continue hiking on St Mary's Falls Trail. After 0.8 mile, you will reach the top of the switchbacks. The trail flattens out here. After about 0.3 miles, you will take a hard left off the trail and begin hiking towards Stove Mountain. There is no trail here. Bushwhack your way uphill through a forest, taking the path of least resistance. Be sure to check your map often to make sure you are headed towards the peak. After about 0.7 miles, you will reach the summit of Stove Mountain. From the summit, you will be able to see Cheyenne Mountain, Mount Rosa, and various other Front Range Peaks. Once you have taken ample time to enjoy the views, turn around and retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.

North Cheyenne Cañon Park is open 5am-9pm from November through April. It is open from 5am-10pm from May through October. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but they must be on a leash.
