The Berm Trail is a wide, popular dedicated walking trail around the perimeter of Clark Regional Park.
With numerouns access points and a well maintained path, this trail can feel busy with afternoon fitness walkers, dog walkers, and runners. The path is a good mix of having the feeling of a somewhat wilder trail, with the amenities of it being located directly beside a regional recreational park with playgrounds, softball diamonds, nature center, etc.
The park traces the perimeter of the park on its east, south and west sides. Upon reaching the end of the path, walkers and hikers can cut a shortcut route directly through the park, or retrace the path, totaling an out-and-back distance of 1.7 miles if sticking to the trail.
While mostly an easy route, there are some short gradual slopes. Walkers can often be found taking advantage of the sunny high point benches near the eastern end of the path sitting with books or taking in the view over the park and the fossil beds and cliffs visible across the street to the north.
Visitors should also keep their eyes up - we saw an osprey perched in a tree on our latest hike along the Berm Trail.
Trail access is subject to Ralph Clark Regional Park rules and entry fees. Some free parking is available along the shoulder of Rosecrans Ave immediately outside the park - just be certain of parking in a permitted spot. All amenities are located within the regional park.
