Baker Campground is a Forest Service run campground in the Kennedy Meadows area along Sonora Pass.
The 44 site campground is located along the Stanislaus River, with some sites set up a short slope from the river, and several short access trails giving other campers an easy way to reach the water. Overall, the campground area is pretty basic. Each site has a table and a fire pit with grill. A few vault toilets are spread amongst the spacious campground, and water spigots provide drinking water. However, this is the extent of the amenities available.
Set in the conifer forest, the campground has that high Sierra ambiance, and aside from the sound of cars passing by on the adjacent highway, it's easy to feel far removed from anything with the sounds of the wind blowing through the trees and the river flow filling the air. For this reason, along with its access to nearby hiking and the Kennedy Meadows Resort, the campground tends to be pretty popular and can often be full during its open season, particularly on weekends.
Baker Campground is open contingent on conditions, so approximately April-October each year.
Sites are only available on a first come, first served basis. There are a couple double sites, as well as two hike in sites. Campers can pay at the self-pay station upon entering the campground. A camp host is onsite as well. While the road is paved, parking pads are dirt, with a limit on RV/trailer length of about 36 feet.
