Arizona's Buckskin Mountain State Park provides a variety of activities for hikers, boaters and families along a slow bend in the Colorado River near the southern end of Lake Havasu.
Lying about two miles downriver of the Parker Dam, the state park features lots of activities, including a protected swimming area on the river, lots of picnic tables and shade ramadas as well as a shaded lawn area above a sandy river beach, a boat launch ramp, access to a network of hiking trails, a game area that has ladder golf and cornhole pits, a fenced in pet area, and an easy walking path through a cactus and plant garden.
Set along a the edge of the river, water access is a major point of the park. The cement boat launch ramp gives boaters a chance to get into the water, and floating the river in tubes from Buckskin Mountain to La Paz County Park located about 3 miles downstream is a favorite activity, and also the annual coordinated Parker Tube Float event.
The park has a market with light groceries, float toys and knowledgeable rangers available. The park is also a popular camping destination, with 80 sites that can accommodate everyone from tent campers to large RVs.
Hiking trails start at a trailhead beside the entrance booth, and range from shorter hikes with views over the river to longer and more difficult hikes heading into the mountainous backcountry. The park offers guided hikes each Saturday at 10am.
Amongst these trails are the short viewpoint trail leading to a vista point overlooking the park, the 1.5 mile Buckskin Loop Trail, the 2.2 mile Market Trail, the 2.8 mile River View Trail, and the 4 mile Buckskin Trail.
Buckskin Mountain State Park has an entrance fee of $10 per vehicle, or $3 per cyclist/walk in.
The Visitor Center and market is open daily from 9am to 4:30pm.
