Lake Chelan National Recreation Area encompasses 61,949-acres near the northern end of Lake Chelan in north-central Washington. There are no roads connecting this town to the rest of the state, making the area only accessible by foot, boat, or plane. This family friendly recreational area features opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, boating, and more. The nearby North Cascades National Park wilderness information center features maps, books, and exhibits to teach about wilderness and backcountry travel.
The small town of Steheikin is located within Lake Chelan National Recreation Area and functions as a popular destination for Pacific Crest Trail thru-hikers looking to take a break, get some rest, or resupply their food.

Lake Chelan is 50.5 miles long and is the largest natural lake in the state. The recreation area is a gateway to North Cascades National Park.
