Chris Flat is an unremarkable 15 site campground south of Walker along the 395 corridor. Its convenient roadside location is unfortunately accompanied by corresponding highway noise. Despite being almost completely exposed, Chris Flat is chosen by many for its proximity to the West Walker River only a few hundred yards away.
Year-round trout fishing is permitted on the Wild and Scenic West Walker River, though it is catch and release only in winter. The West Walker is also a destination for rafting and kayaking, with rapids ranging from Class III to Class IV during spring runoff.
Black bears are constantly in search of sustenance and are becoming conditioned to hunt for human food. It is your responsibility to properly store trash, food, and cosmetics while enjoying public lands. There are no bear boxes at Chris Flat Campground. Consider bringing bear canisters if possible.
Vault toilets, potable water, and trash disposal are available at Chris Flat. Sites can accommodate camp trailers up to 25 feet.
A day use fee is required for West Walker River access. Firewood can be purchased from the camp host. This campground closes in the winter season.
