Want to get outside for a Memorial Day adventure? We're here to share some inspiration. For anyone Northern California bound, we recommend exploring the redwoods. Campgrounds in the redwoods can fill up quickly, so we've included two that are close and generally less crowded than the campgrounds in the parks themselves.

Florence Keller County Park + Campground has 50 camping spots. All are first-come, first-served.

Panther Flat Campground has 38 spots. Reservations are available, and we've recommended eight campsites.

Jedediah Smith Campground has 126 camping spots. Unlike Florence Keller and Panther Flat, it's in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Reservations are available.

Walking among the giants in a redwood forest is a magical experience. The size of the trees conjures the true majesty and scale of nature. We recommend visiting Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park for the full redwood experience. When you're there, visit the Stout Memorial Grove in particular, and we also highly recommend hiking the Damnation Creek Trail. It's a less crowded area with massive old-growth redwoods along a trail that eventually leads to the ocean. Florence Keller Campground is 4 miles from Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and 11 miles from Damnation Creek Trail. Panther Flat Campground is a bit farther from both, but still just a short drive away.
