Shark Fin Cove

So named for the large fin-like rock that juts out of the water just off the coast, Shark Fin is a picturesque small secluded beach begging you (and lots of others) to spend the day. Part of the 6-mile stretch known as Coast Dairies State Park, the beach also goes by the names Davenport Cove, Shark's Tooth Beach, and Jah Beach. As with many secluded beaches, this one is clothing optional, but with a large flow of family visitors, particularly on weekends, nudity may feel out of place.

To get there, find the pullout parking area just a half-mile north of Bonny Doon Beach. Cross the parking area toward the railroad tracks at the back of the cove and search for the path that starts near them. Use caution when navigating down the path because it isn’t well-maintained and beach access can be challenging.

This beach is a great place for photographers because several other small caves and rock arch features are scattered along the shore in addition to the iconic “fin” rock. An old mining tunnel on the beach resembles a deep dark cave, and one of the arches can be crossed underneath at low tide. If you plan to visit and take photos, be sure to check out the outlook on the farm road in the northern part of the cove for the best views of the fin.
