Weber Canyon Scenic Drive

Outside of the town of Oakley, Utah, and not far from Park City is the scenic Weber Canyon. A beautiful and wide canyon that hosts a large array of summer cabins, lakes, wildlife and autumn colors. Interstate 84 runs up the canyon and is a mellow drive compared to many other similar locations. The steady grade of the road and lack of major bends make this a great place for road bikers also. Many large aspen groves are dotted with giant cottonwoods near the river banks as well as maple and oak trees.

Smith and Morehouse Reservoir and Ledgefork Campground are situated on the south side about 12 miles up the road. You can hike from the campground into the western edge of the Uinta Mountains along the Smith and Morehouse Trail. At one point, the Trans-Continental Railway traveled through the canyon.

The 40-mile long canyon is usually only traveled as far as the reservoir as its the best-known attraction. The road past the reservoir circles back around and above the lake toward Slader Ridge. At the start of the canyon is the famous and long-standing Road Island Diner, which has been operating since 1939. The autumn colors tend to come out near late September.
