Bowman Bay is one of the more popular areas of Deception Pass State Park, and for good reason. Its beach is large enough to accommodate the traffic it receives without feeling too crowded. And there's plenty for the whole family to do, from the playground to the fishing dock, from hiking the nearby trails to scoping for birds and marine wildlife.

Historically, the cove has gone through several iterations. It was the site of a Samish village until the late 19th century. For the next few decades the site was used as a military reservation, and it was thus called "Reservation Bay." Then, in the mid 20th century, the field was the site of a Department of Wildlife salmon hatchery. The large brick building at the edge of the field was part of the hatchery.

Today the bay is known for its exceptional beauty and scenery. The trail network through this area of the park leads to nearby Rosario Beach, Lottie Bay, and Lighthouse Point.
