Looking for a quick escape from Portland to hone your trail riding skills? Cascade Locks Mountain Bike Trails provide the perfect place for beginners to work on gaining confidence on the single track and for experts to pump out several laps while working on increasing their speed through the banks.

From the parking area, the majority of riders travel clockwise on the perimeter trail, where they quickly come upon several overlook pullouts with great views of the Columbia River and Washington. From there, you can continue clockwise along the cliff's edge and down toward Government Cove, where there are several forks and trail variations with minimal elevation change. If the trail gets rather sloppy, feel free to spread a bit of gravel (bucket and gravel pile in the parking area).  The opposite (western) side of the park is shorter and has less elevation change, but it has one of the best viewpoints in the entire area.

All in all, for a short drive out out of Portland, this is a great track for a quick workout and an awesome place to relax and enjoy the views.

A couple of the trails had blackberries growing over them, which made them impassable by bike. We did minimal learning on the top section of the Easy CLIMB, but I'm sure it will grow back in a few days.

While there isn't any big elevation change, there are some fairly steep bits with sharp switchbacks right from the beginning. It may not be the best place to introduce younger kids to single track riding.
