The Little Rainbow Trail is a moderately difficult hike in the Methodist Mountain Trail System near Salida, CO. This out-and-back offers views of Salida and the Arkansas Valley. This trail is 9.5 miles long and gains over 750 feet of elevation.

The Little Rainbow Trail begins from a parking lot off of Pinon Ridge Trail. Begin hiking east on Little Rainbow Trail. After 0.3 miles, you will reach the Skull Trail. Head right to stay on the Little Rainbow Trail. All of the junctions on this trail are very well-marked, and most of them have maps.

Hake another 0.9 miles to reach a junction with Spartan Trail. Continue on Little Rainbow Trail as you hike amongst pinyon pines, prickly pear, and yucca. After another 0.7 miles, you will cross over County Road 108. There is also a trailhead here which has a portable restroom.

Shortly after crossing the road, you will come to a junction with Upper Sol Train Trail and continue straight. You will now be traveling uphill for 0.6 miles. This is followed by 0.4 miles of downhill hiking. Here, you will reach a junction with Sun Up and Lost Trail. Continue on Little Rainbow Trail.

Now, travel mostly downhill for 0.8 miles to reach the low point of the hike. This is at a junction with Upper Sol Train Trail and Dead Bird Trail. This signifies the end of Little Rainbow Trail. Retrace your steps to return to the trailhead.

The Little Rainbow Trail is open year-round. There are no associated fees to hike at Methodist Mountain Trail System. Dogs are allowed on this hike. This trail is also shared with bikers and horseback riders. The Little Rainbow Trail is a great way to experience the natural beauty of the greater Salida area.
