If you are looking for a place to call home while you’re exploring the Cayo District in Belize, Clarissa Falls Resort is just the spot! This privately owned resort is located on a 900-acre working cattle ranch on the banks of the Mopan River. With a variety of accommodations, there’s a place for everyone.
The thatched roof cottages and suites are a little rustic, which adds to the relaxing charm of the resort. You won’t find air conditioning, televisions, or radios here. Each has electricity, a private bathroom with hot/cold water, and fans. Prices range from $37.50 to $175 per night. There is also a camping area with sites available for $7.50 per night. Picnic tables and restrooms with showers are available. They also have space available for events and larger groups.
The full-service restaurant on-site is reasonably priced and has a variety of local Belizean meals. The laid-back vibe continues here as well, where as a guest you can help yourself to cold drinks and frozen treats—an honor system in which you track and pay for what you consume at the end of your stay. They have vegetarian and vegan options. Sack lunches can be ordered for taking on day trips.
Activities on-site include birdwatching, hiking, horseback riding, and just relaxing in one of the many hammocks strung about the property. Inner tubes and life vest are available on-site for floating the Mopan River, and resort staff will pick you up downriver for a small fee.
The resort is located a few miles outside the town of San Ignacio and near the Guatemalan border, which makes for easy day trips to Mayan sites such as Xunantunich and Tikal National Park, as well as the famous Actun Tunichil Muknal Caves. The staff can help you set up trips to local adventures; they know where everything is and who leads trips there. Or you can head into San Ignacio, where there are plenty of tour companies and individuals willing to show you around.
