Canyon Lake is the most popular destination along the Apache Trail Scenic Byway, and Acacia Recreation Site is the best place to take a refreshing dip in the cool water of this desert oasis. There are multiple places to access the shoreline, but Acacia is the only spot with a sandy beach and sheltered swimming and fishing cove. It is the perfect spot to launch kayaks, canoes and paddle boards on the lake as well. There is no boat ramp, but the distance to carry your boat from the parking lot is short. Motorboats cannot put in here, though there is a boat ramp in the adjacent Palo Verde Recreation Site, so paddlers and swimmers may have to contend with some wake waves from passing craft.
The shore makes a great place to relax as well. Trees provide shade over a grassy lawn, and several large pavilions with picnic tables and grills make a great base camp for your group to set up snacks and refreshments. Restrooms and trash cans are provided, but no drinking water.
You are unlikely to get this beach to yourself, but even on a weekend, there will likely be plenty of space to share. Please be courteous of other users and remember to take up no more space than you need, minimize your noise, and keep the area clean.
Note: Pets and glass containers are prohibited at Acacia Recreation Site.
