Jackson Creek Campground is a free campground that sits at a crossroads of several popular backcountry areas in the High Sierra.
With 14 sites that contain only a fire pit, locker for food, and a picnic bench, the campground Itself is not very scenic or appealing, but the draw here is its location in the center of a variety of backcountry trails and destinations. Nestled at an elevation of 5600', sites sit amongst a stand of tall conifer trees, and a small stream flows adjacent to most sites, though it is overgrown and too small for anything other than maybe dipping your feet.
The campground sits a crossroads, where a very rough road forks and turns into an extremely rough road. The intersection is a popular staging area for cars to unload ORVs, so the area just outside the campground may get busy and noisy, particularyl during holidays and weekends. The dirt road through the campground tends to blow in the wind, leaving a layer of dust on everything. While there are several other nearby campgrounds that may be more scenic or nearer to features of interest, Jackson Creek makes a good option for those wanting to have a base to get out and explore the surrounding forest from.
Jackson Creek Campground is first come, first served, and does not accept reservations. Visitors are responsible for packing out their own trash, and there is no water available onsite. A couple vault toilet structures serve the campground.
The road to reach the campground requires high clearance, and is subject to seasonal closures due to winter conditions.
