Canyon Creek Campground tends to feel the most spacious of the area's campgrounds. With 20 sites laid out along a paved road, families camping in the area tend to head to Canyon Creek Campground.
The campground is first come, first served, with no fees required and no reservations available. It is a basic campground, with sites containing picnic tables, fire pits, and bear-safe food lockers. Three vault toilets serve the campground. The campground is also set into the forest and off of the road, which is a luxury in comparison to other nearby established campgrounds that tend to sit immediately beside the forest road.
Those visiting during the week or arriving early may find one of the shaded sites beneath the tree cover available. The campground can get very busy on holidays and weekends throughout the summer season and may often be full. There is no water available, however there are nearby streams where water may be collected and boiled. Campers are responsible for packing out their trash.
Managed by the Nevada Irrigation District, Canyon Creek Campground access is subject to winter conditions that tend to arrive early and linger around late. Those looking to check on the open status of the campground can call the Irrigation District office at (530) 265-5302 to ask.
Reaching Canyon Creek Campground requires a 9 mile drive along a very rough gravel road. High clearance in necessary, 4WD is strongly recommended. The road is subject to winter conditions.
