The Cobden Lagoon Loop is a quick and easy hike located Greymouth, West Coast. This hike travels around a small lagoon and near the Tasman Sea. The trail is mostly paved, but there are a few gravel sections. This loop is 1 mile long and gains 36 feet of elevation.
This hike starts from a parking area off of N Tip Rd. There are bathrooms available here. Begin hiking east towards the lagoon. Freedom Camping is also allowed in the parking area. After about 100 yards, you will come to a junction and go left. This trail quickly brings you to the edge of the lagoon. There is a good chance you will see birds swimming in the lagoon. As you hike along the shore, there are benches available to stop and rest at. After 0.3 miles, you will come to a junction and turn right. Here, you will have a great view of the Tasman Sea. Turn right again and head back towards the lagoon.
Hike along the northeast side of Cobden Lagoon. There are picnic tables along the trail here. It is also possible to see flowers here. After 0.4 miles, the trail will cross a road. Follow the trail along the road and enjoy views of the Grey River. After another 0.2 miles, you will cross the road and walk back to the parking area.
The Cobden Lagoon Loop is open for hiking year round. There are no associated fees to hike here. Dogs are allowed here, but they must be on a leash. This trail is also suitable for biking. The Cobden Lagoon is a nice way to stretch your legs if you are in the Greymouth area.
