Jackpine Trail

The Jackpine Trail is a trail that runs parallel to Icicle Road from Jack Trout Trailhead to Blackpine Trailhead and Horse Camp. It primarily serves as a connector trail for anyone hiking other nearby trails, but it is also an enjoyable 3 mile out-and-back standalone hike.

You can begin the Jackpine Trail from Jack Trout Trailhead where there is a vault toilet and information sign. Note that if you are just hiking the Jackpine Trail there is no need to fill out a self issue permit here as it doesn’t enter the Alpine Lakes Wilderness.

The trail has a few minor ups and downs as it travels though the beautiful forest, but the hiking is enjoyable and easy.

A few gaps in the trees allow for vistas north toward Grindstone Mountain.

The trail continues until reaching Blackpine Horse Camp and Trailhead where it ends.

From here you can return the way you came, or explore further by walking up the road to the nearby Icicle Creek Trailhead where one can hike the Icicle Creek Trail as far as desired.
