Turn Island State Park is a small island near Friday Harbor and is part of the San Juan National Wildlife Refuge. The island has 12 campsites and is a great place to stay for a quick overnight trip from Friday Harbor or as part of a longer trip to Jones Island, circumnavigating Shaw Island, or a pit stop toward the end of the arduous trip from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. Turn Island, which overlooks the San Juan Channel, is home to a host of curious raccoons and deer that visit campers day or night. Campers should be sure to secure their food in animal proof containers or hang it away from these curious critters when not at camp.
