Secluded campsites can be hard to find in the Columbia River Gorge. There are plenty of established and often overcrowded state parks, but finding a modest area with a little solitude is a challenge. This campsite, just north of the Klickitat River Campground, just might offer the outdoor serenity you are looking for. The site is close to the highway, but the relatively light traffic keeps this proximity from being much of an issue. The site has virtually no amenities other than a fire pit and several level tent spots, but it does offer the constant white noise of the churning Klickitat River, the 1,000-foot gorge walls looming above you, and the clear blue skies that are typical in the eastern gorge.
Caution: Due to the dry climate and wildfire dangers, camp fires in this area are not advised! Confirm the rules and regulations pertaining to campfires prior to your visit. If permitted, follow the recommended procedures for responsible campfire etiquette.
