Bending from Chetzemoka Park and the Point Hudson Marina in the south all the way up to the Point Wilson Lighthouse in the north, the Fort Worden Beach along Puget Sound is one of Fort Worden State Park's most incredible features. This lovely sand beach is easily accessible from a day use parking area in the park, and it is an ideal spot to spend a calm summer day as you listen to the sound's waves wash up against the sand and admire the snow-capped peaks of the Northern Cascades in the distance across Admiralty Inlet. The beach is home to plenty of activities as well. You'll find moorages and a boat ramp for large and small watercrafts, and kayak rentals are available if you didn't bring your own. In addition, crabbing, fishing, and diving are also popular here. With 120 feet of dock, you're certain to find somewhere to drop a line. If you are visiting in the summer, the Port Townsend Marine Science Center is located here, and it is a fantastic and fun educational resource (the center is closed in the winter).

The beach is just steps away from the park's Beach Campground, but there are plenty of day use facilities for those who are not staying in the park. An enclosed kitchen and dining area is an important asset given the year-round nature of this park; you can reserve the shelter by calling 360.344.4431. Restrooms are located near the day use parking area and in two spots as you walk the half mile north from the Marine Science Center toward the lighthouse. This short walk is a staple if you are in the Port Townsend area in the summer, and it is a great way to enjoy the beach and sound along this historic state park.

Washington State Boat Moorage

Due to the extensive Puget Sound, the Washington State Parks + Recreation Commission boasts the most extensive mooring system in the U.S. All buoys and dock moorage slips are based on a first-come, first-served management system with a three consecutive night limit. Permit and payment of moorage fees are required.
