Kiptopeke State Park Campground is located within the woods along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It consists of a total of 192 campsites, ranging from car camping all the way up to cabins and lodges. Most of the campsites are within the wooded area to the east of the beachfront, but there are two boardwalks that extend from the campground over the dunes to the beach below.
There is quite a bit of shade within the campground, and most sites have a decent amount of space. However, some can be quite close to the next site over, separated only with little barrier. Each camping loop has its own bathroom facilities, including flush toilets and hot showers.
The best part about the campground is the V.I.P. access to the beach. While you can visit the beach from the main parking lot/visitor center, entering from the camping boardwalk offers a bit more solitude for those seeking to beat the crowds.
The campground also has access to a boat/kayak launch, fishing piers and picnic areas, located just a short distance away at the main beach access point. The picnic areas/beaches offer a view of half-submerged concrete ships, which are now wildlife havens.
