The Trapp Family Lodge Cross-country Ski Center is a popular destination for novices and experts alike. Their full service lodge offers accommodations, while the cross-country ski center provides lessons and rentals. With 37 miles of groomed terrain and 62 miles of backcountry trails, there's something for everyone at Trapp's.
Purchase a day pass or rent gear at the obvious cross-country center located next to the yurt and get started by following any one of the numerous trails surrounding the center. Most trails sit on the northwest side of the Trapp Hill Road. Sugar Road, Russel Knoll, and Telemark are all suitable for beginners, rolling over gentle meadows with few major hills. At the western end of the Sugar Road, many trails converge on the Picnic Knoll.
More challenging trails begin their climb up toward Roundtop and connector trails to backcountry networks and the Stowe Mountain Resort Cross Country Center trails. These trails often have steep climbs and descents, and narrower trails.
On the southeast side of the Trapp Hill Road, the Sleigh Road, Aither Trail, and Ayers track offer moderately challenging terrain in open meadows with great views of the Worcester Range and Mount Mansfield. There is also an extension that leads to the Von Trapp Brewery. Hard to pass up a trailside beverage!
The Trapp Family Lodge Cross-country Center does not allow dogs and requires a hefty trail fee of $25 for adults. Juniors 12 through 18 are $15 for the day, and children 6 through 11 are $10. Seniors 65 and over are $20. For more information on pricing and rentals, visit the website.
