Camping at Mount Ascutney State Park is available from mid-May through mid-October, and it is the perfect base camp for adventures on the mountain. There are numerous hiking trails throughout the park and the bordering West Windsor Town Forest, opportunities to watch wildlife such as birds and deer, and there are even two hang gliding launch sites that offer views to the northwest and south. The Futures Trail leaves directly from the southern campground loop, saving you from needing to drive to a separate trailhead if you don’t want to.
The campground sits at the base of Mount Ascutney and offers a variety of camping options. There are two main campground areas, with 17 sites and a bathhouse along the park road to the north and a larger loop to the south. The southern loop has a mix of tent, trailer, and RV sites and lean-tos, a bathhouse, and horseshoes. One lean-to is ADA accessible with a ramp allowing for wheelchair entry. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire pit, and most sites are fairly large with flat, dirt surfaces. Some sites are situated closer to VT-44A, where there can be a bit of road noise. However, this is not an overly busy or loud road. The campground has an RV sanitary station, coin-operated showers, and potable water, and firewood can be purchased in the park. For those looking for a slightly more luxurious camping option, the park is opening five cabins in 2017 located about halfway up the Mount Ascutney Parkway.
Camping fees vary, and the park offers a discount to Vermont residents. Call the park at 802.674.2060 for the most up-to-date fees and reservations.
