Canyonlands National Park is a huge and wonderful wilderness in southeastern Utah. The park is divided into three sections, each approached from a different direction. The most popular and accessible section is the Island in the Sky area near Moab. Willow Flat is the only car-accessible campground in this section, but it is a gem. Located about midway between the park entrance at the north and the end of the park road at Grand View Point at the south, Willow Flat is perfectly situated to provide access to the fine overlooks and trails in this part of Canyonlands. In fact, just a two-minute walk from the campground is the glorious Green River Overlook with its 100-mile vistas over some of the most beautiful canyon scenery in the world.

With only 12 sites, this campground is tiny by national park standards, and it is quite primitive. There is no water available at the campground as of this writing, which also means there are no showers and only vault toilets. There are no other amenities. One site is ADA accessible, and the rest range from tiny spots for a tent only to a few that are large enough for a medium-sized trailer or RV. All sites are first-come, first-served, and they generally fill up every day in spring and fall.

NOTE: The only other campground close to Canyonlands is the excellent one at Dead Horse Point State Park just 16 miles outside the park entrance.
