Dead Horse Point is a popular day stop for people going to Canyonlands. Situated about 2,000 feet above the canyon floor below and connected by a 30-yard-wide neck of land to the main plateau, the park is in some ways just another overlook for Canyonlands. For those who spend more time, Dead Horse Point can be a wonderful base for exploring the area, and the campground in the park is excellent. It is just a 20-minute drive to the Canyonlands park entrance from the campground.

With only 21 spaces, all with electric hookups, Dead Horse Point is quiet and private. Located less than a half mile from the park visitor center and about a mile from the main overlook at the end of the point, the campground is perfect for exploring by foot. There is a rim trail that runs along the west rim near the campground out to the point, then back along the east rim to the visitor center, making about a 4-mile loop with several spur trails to overlooks. The closest canyon rim overlook is about three-quarters of a mile from the campground and offers a gorgeous view toward the south into Canyonlands.

The campground is one simple loop road with one bathroom. Many of the sites are large enough for a large RVs, some are smaller for tents or tent trailers, and most are not very level at all. Reservations should be made as early as possible as this park campground is very popular.

NOTE: There is no water available for filling RV tanks (it has to be trucked up from Moab), so campers should come prepared with all the water they will need.
