This hike in South Carolina may surprise you. Located directly off of Highway 11, this trail quickly takes you along a secluded journey. As soon as you enter the wilderness area, you will see one of several waterfalls on the hike. Follow the stone stairs to the left and you will be led to the next waterfall. The third waterfall should be treated with caution.

The trail system is marked and easy to follow. At the midway point there are some historical landmarks associated with the trail. Take a break and read the informational signs, which share information about the historical sites and ecology of the area. The shelter you will see was built as a part of the New Deal, implemented by President Roosevelt. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930s, the chimney and fireplace still remain. This park was set up as one of six resting spots for traveling motorist in South Carolina.

Overall this was a quiet and peaceful hike. If you have an hour or so and are traveling through this area of South Carolina, this trail provides a great way to stretch your legs and enjoy a short, serene trek.
