Seven Tubs

The Seven Tubs Recreation Area is a small portion of the Pinchot State forest located off Route 115 in Luzerne County. The Seven Tubs has one small paved parking area at the beginning of the hiking trail and two small parking lots for overflow. During the peak summer season parking can be difficult. The area consists of one main hiking trail blazed in blue. The trail is a loop and begins and ends along the water. From the parking lot a short walk will lead you up a paved pathway to a wooden bridge over the main gorge. After crossing the bridge, the trail begins by following a crystal clear stream. Hikers will enjoy small falls for the first half of the trail. This area is often wet and floods frequently during rainy seasons. Two small wooden bridges can be crossed to pass over areas susceptible to flooding. The second half of the trail is much drier as you begin to climb up to the power lines. Hikers must be careful to follow trail markers at this time because it can be confusing. The final portion of the trail brings you down from the top of the gorge where you can see how it was initially formed. Take caution at this point as there is little protecting you from falling over the edge into the roaring waters. 

Although there are many small unmarked trails, the only official trail is the blue blazed trail. Since the parking lot was restored during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, new signs post other areas are restricted, including a pathway to a reservior and rock climbing area. 

The Seven Tubs is a wonderful area to go to spend a few hours hiking a trail, sitting in a hammock, or enjoying a picnic. The area is dog friendly, free to the public, and only a short drive out of the city of Wilkes Barre.
