Located on the southern edge of alkali Summer Lake in Southeastern Oregon, Summer Lake Hot Springs has to be one of the most tranquil places in the entire state. Only a few hours south of Bend, or just over four hours from Medford, these artesian mineral springs will sooth your mind and body as you bask in the sunlight and look out over the arid high desert of America's Great Basin.
The hot springs are maintained on a 145-acre resort established as a healing retreat. The hot mineral waters surface at temperatures ranging between 106 and 118 degrees and are then are channeled to two outdoor rock pools and one large indoor pool housed in a rustic, timber-framed, metal-clad barn that was built in 1928.
For those who are looking to stay several days, the small bohemian resort offers six quaint and well-maintained cabins that range from $85 to 175 per night, numerous full hook-up RV sites, and campsites for those with tents. All of the accommodations share a central and communal bathhouse and shower area. Call 541.943.3931 or visit www.summerlakehotsprings.com for more information.
Summer Lake Hot Springs is also the home of the annual Coyote Spirit Festival held in mid-June, a two-day retreat with live music, multiple food vendors, and plenty of soaking.
