For better or for worse, Lava Lake Campground essentially serves as an overflow campground for the two adjacent campgrounds that serve Lava and Little Lava Lake, both of which are attractive to two distinctly different crowds.
Lava Lake Resort runs a separate 24 site full-hookup (electrical, water, sewage) RV Resort with the luxuries of showers, restrooms and a laundry facility. In contrast, Little Lava Lake Campground, situated on the banks of the Deschutes River headwater, is a relatively modest 15 site campground that caters to tent campers seeking a more rustic setting. Both campgrounds are popular and fill up quickly!
Fortunately, Lava Lake Campground, run by Hoodoo Recreation, has an additional 44 campsites for those in need of an overnight spot. The campsites are very generous in size, perfect for large groups, and most offer a good amount of privacy. Unfortunately, because they are set in a thick forest of lodgepole pine, none of the sites have views of either of the neighboring lakes.
