Grande Ronde Lake is a high elevation lake in the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, featuring a day use area with tables with grills, a boat launch, and water.
Tucked away off of the Elkhorn Scenic Byway at an elevation slightly higher than Anthony Lakes Recreation Area which oversees Grande Ronde, this lake is for those looking for a quiet escape to a scenic area that offers lounging and fishing. The day use area also has access to a single track trail that circles the lake.
Grande Ronde is much smaller, and the area much quieter, than nearby Anthony Lake. Set down a half mile dirt road that passenger cars may access under dry ideal driving conditions, its remoteness tends to keep the crowds away.
Adjacent to the Day Use area is Grande Ronde Campground, a small campground with 8 basic sites.
The parking area for Grande Ronde is large enough for about 7 cars. There is a water spigot and vault toilet located beside the parking lot.
This is scenic Elkhorn area backcountry, and a quiet escape into what feels like remote backcountry.
Day use fee is $4, payable at the entrance kiosk.
Grande Ronde Lake is open from about June-September, with seasonal closures the rest of the year based on winter conditions.
