If you'd like to camp along the Clackamas River and prefer to avoid the confines of an established campground, these independent campsites may be just what you're looking for. Two adjacent campsites are located south of Riverside Campground beyond the no-camping restriction area, and both offer campfire rings, plenty of level ground for tents, direct river access and the company of giant old-growth Douglas fir.
Of course, there are no reservations or guarantees of availability, but the sites may remain unoccupied precisely because there are so many camping options that are closer to Estacada. Although the five-mile Riverside National Recreation Trail is not accessible from these sites, the trail runs between nearby Riverside and Rainbow campgrounds and is enjoyed by hikers and mountain bikers alike. Additional activities enjoyed by visitors include fishing, birding, rafting, splashing around in the river or warming up at nearby Bagby Hot Springs.
Set out for these sites earlier this week and they were taken but there are many more as you continue driving. You won't have a problem finding a great spot on or close to the river. Loved it out here! Harriet Lake is a must visit nearby.
