Rising more than 800 feet above the Pacific Ocean, the Cape Perpetua lookout provides a 70-mile view of the Oregon coast on a clear day. Also, with an unobstructed view straight west over the Pacific, visitors can see more than 35 miles out to sea in optimal conditions.

The height of the Cape Perpetua Lookout and its sweeping views makes this an exceptional destination for whale watching, as well as views to Devil’s Churn, Cape Cove, Spouting Horn—and even as far south as Heceta Head. Further, when in the area, don't miss the short hike to the Giant Spruce!

Cape Perpetua is part of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve and Marine Protected Areas. This means that there are specific prohibitions against fishing and the harvesting of fish, invertebrates, and seaweed. Check here for specific clarifications on regulations, exemptions, and a detailed representation of the area's boundaries.

The Cape Perpetua visitor center is a great place to look for wildlife such as whales and elk, as well as watch the weather roll in.

A profound concept originally envisioned by governor Oswald West, in 1967 the Oregon legislature ultimately realized his vision of making the entire Oregon Coast forever open to the public in a piece of landmark legislation titled the Oregon Beach Bill, officially making all 363 miles public land. "The People's Coast" is truly a one-of-a-kind coastline, a unique blend of mountains and rocky stacks, towering old growth forests, marine sanctuaries, tide pools and kelp forests, charming towns, historic fishing communities, world-class golfing, breweries, and simply jaw-dropping scenic beaches.
