With wide open, blue skies, several thousand acres of meadow and pasture, and the backdrop of gentle mountains and ponderosa pine trees, Big Summit Prairie is the epitome of great western landscape.  Located in the heart of the Ochoco Mountains, just east of Lookout Mountain and Round Mountain, Big Summit Prairie is a stellar stopping point for wildflower viewing in late spring. For the best showing head to the western edge of the prairie. Turn right off of Canyon Creek Rd/NF-42 onto NF-300 and proceed for several hundred yards, where northern mule’s ear, common camas, red paintbrush and meadow larkspur will be in abundance.
