Craggy Gardens Pinnacle Trail offers amazing views, gorgeous wildflowers, and a relaxed hike. The Pinnacle Trail tops out just shy of 6,000 feet and provides a panoramic vista with benches and excellent viewing perches.
Hiking to the pinnacle is best in early summer when the rhododendrons are in bloom, but it is still just as impressive in later seasons. The twisted branches provide a tunnel-like feel for the majority of the trail. There are multiple overlook spots off of the trail that provide glimpses of what is to come at the top. Since the trail is a simple 1.5-mile out-and-back, it is a quick jaunt up and around.
The top of the Pinnacle Trail is truly amazing. The 360-degree view provides a look out into the Pisgah Wilderness, parts of Asheville, and beyond. From the stone viewing areas, one can sit on the wooden benches, see the visitor center, and admire the famous blue hues of the Blue Ridge Mountains layer by layer.
Prior to reaching the parking area for Craggy Gardens Pinnacle Trail (if you're coming from Asheville), you'll pass the Craggy Gardens Picnic Area. The picnic area is large and well laid out, which is perfect for families. After passing the picnic area, the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center will be on the right. With a beautiful western view out over the mountains, the visitor center offers snacks, a gift shop and clean bathrooms.
