Westcott Beach State Park is located on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario. Best known for it’s large playing fields, picnic area, and beautiful beach, Westcott is a great place to spend a day by the lake. The campground within the park features over 150 sites for visitors wishing to stay for a night or more.
Day use visitors can check in at the park entrance and continue down the road following signs for the beach. Here they will find the picnic area, bathhouse, playground, and swimming beach. The basketball court, baseball field, and soccer field are all accessible from this parking area as well.
The picnic area features several picnic tables, metal grills, and a few pavilions in case of bad weather. A concession stand is also located here, adjacent to the changing rooms and restrooms.
The beach stretches for nearly a quarter-mile with lifeguards on duty during busy hours. The beach is a mixture of sand and small pebbles, and the water deepens gradually. A buoyed line separates the shallows from deeper water. Because of the prominent winds in this area, there are often small waves crashing onshore. Sports fields are found on the inland end of the picnic area.
Visitors will find the boat launch toward the park entrance. Motorboats and paddle boats can launch here, where they are protected by a seawall. Anglers will find several varieties of fish in Lake Ontario, most notably black bass and lake trout.
The less popular east side of Westcott Beach State Park can be accessed by leaving the park and heading south on Route 3. Take your first left to reach the park office and follow the road to the top of a bluff. Here, visitors can access 2.5 miles of unnamed trails as they meander through the forest with occasional views of the lake.
