Often confused with Hague Brook Falls or Falls on Hague Brook, the 15- to 20-foot Millbrook Falls forms on Hague Brook in the Town of Hague, New York.
There is a small park in Hague with a sign reading, “Hague Brook Public Access.” Park in the lot here and walk across a small bridge that spans Hague Brook. Follow the trail a short distance up to a viewing area for the falls. The footpath will lead you to the top of the falls as well. Benches line the path at the top.
The origin of the name Millbrook Falls is unknown, but no doubt derived from the fact that sawmills, grist mills, tanneries, lumber mills, farms, boat-building and blacksmiths were the early industries and used the brook in the production of their goods.
The bottom of the falls are accessed by either walking up the brook itself or up the road and down the steep embankment. The rocks are very slippery, so use caution.
Looking toward the side of the falls, you will notice that the waterfall slopes and forms a slide-like drop. The brook splits around rocks at the upper section, and the two halves come together before sliding down to the base.
Further upstream, Hague Brook Falls can be found under a bridge that spans the road.
The town of Hague was first settled around 1796. It was originally part of the Town of Bolton, which was then renamed as Rochester in 1807. In 1808, it changed its name to Hague.
