Just a few miles north from Fish Creek Pond State Park and accompanying campground, Meacham Lake Campground in Meacham Lake State Park offers comparable views, water access and hiking without the crowds. It features 224 campsites, a swimming beach, boating access and much more.
The north end of Meachham Lake has served as a popular destination for over 100 years. The Meacham Lake Hotel was built in 1898 and hosted several visitors until it burned down in 1921. Shortly afterward, the state purchased the land and began construction of the campground with the use of the Civilian Conservation Corps. It remains a popular destination today, though much less well-known than some of the other campgrounds in the area.
Hot showers and flush toilets are available to campers as well as rowboat and canoe rentals, a boat launch with a floating dock, a hiking trail that starts right in the campground, a swimming beach and a playground. Many of the amenities are spread out throughout the campground and can be challenging to find, but the campground staff are always helpful and willing to point you in the right direction. Most notably, the boat launch is located at the southeast end of the main campground, requiring users to drive through the entire campground. The benefit to this is that boats are rarely even visible from the swimming area. The trail to Debar Mountain starts at the top of a dirt road between sites 35 and 37.
Most of the sites are on level, grassy ground. Many are quite spacious. With the exception of a handful of sites, all are close to the water. Sites 149 through 173 are on the lakeshore. In the adjacent Meacham Lake West, sites 175 through 179 are walk-in only, and feature an outhouse at each site.
